Five reasons to buy Galaxy S8

Image
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is one of the most expensive phones on the market right now. With great price comes great consideration about if it's the right purchasing decision for you. So here are 5 Reasons to consider the Note 8 as your next phone. This is based on my time with a review handset ahead of the launch and I've had a little over a week to come to these conclusions. 1. The Camera Samsung has, for the most part, nailed it here. Shots on both the telephoto and standard view look great in good light. Things aren't dreadful when the light level drops either, but like all camera phones there are compromises. Low light shots are not, in my opinion, as good as they can be on the Pixel. Google's phone remains the king of very low light photography. 2.Music Samsung's developed a really nice sound system for it's phones. But for me there's some stuff here that just goes beyond the overall quality. In the EQ menus there are options to tw...

Why Google's upcoming phone is more exciting than the iPhone X

Image
Why Google's upcoming phone is more exciting than the iPhone X Google sent out press invites for an event on Oct. 4. Little is known about the phone or what it will offer. By contrast, we knew almost everything about the iPhone X. Leading up into Apple's event earlier this week, CNBC and most of the media knew all there was to know about what Apple had in store. Three iPhones were unveiled, including the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. No surprises there, aside from the naming scheme. The two iPhone 8 models are minor upgrades to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The iPhone X looks exactly like every leaked image that cropped up all year, and what might have been surprises, like Face ID, were expected. Don't get me wrong. I look forward to seeing it in person and maybe even buying one, but there really wasn't anything we didn't know about, and the whole unveiling was kind of yawn-worthy. We even knew that the phone wouldn't launch in Se...

Google finally released Android Oreo a couple of weeks back, and with it came the official source code release in AOSP as well. This means that developers around the world can start building Android’s latest update for a device they own. We’ve been highlighting these unofficial builds lately and now we have a new one to put the spotlight on. For those who want to test an early build of Oreo, you can now do so on the  Snapdragon Xiaomi Redmi Note 4  (mido). There are a couple of different versions of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 out there, so make sure you actually own the Snapdragon variant. For those who aren’t 100% sure, you can use an application such as AIDA64 from the Google Play Store to probe the hardware and find out what chip yours has. This early build of  LineageOS  15 for the Redmi Note 4 is here thanks to work from XDA Senior Member  thp@1997  (as well as the LineageOS team who are bringing it up right now). Thi...

Android 8.0 Oreo, thoroughly reviewed Android 8.0 Oreo is the 26th version of the world's most popular operating system. This year, Google's mobile-and-everything-else OS hit two billion monthly active users—and that's just counting phones and tablets. What can all those users expect from the new version? In an interview , Android's VP of engineering Dave Burke said that the 8.0 release would be about "foundation and fundamentals." His team was guided by a single question: "What are we doing to Android to make sure Android is in a great place in the next 5 to 10 years?" Nabisco produced a limited run of Android-themed Oreos for the launch event. Oreo Take a closer look at Oreo and you really  can  see the focus on fundamentals. Google is revamping the notification system with a new layout, new controls, and a new color scheme. It's taking responsibility for Android security with a Google-branded s...

What will happen to google assistant in oreo

Google assistant's App Integration Gets Better With Oreo๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ† Google Assistant’s app integration is going to get better with  Android 8.0 Oreo , as it looks like Google is prepping the software to where app developers will be able to make better use of it in a number of ways. Third-party apps will eventually be able to interact with Google Assistant that will make it possible for the app to initiate an activity through google assistant when the user is inside of the app. On top of this Google seems to be setting it up so that this new integration will work with other digital assistants beyond Google Assistant, such as Amazon’s Alexa app or Microsoft’s Cortana app. As of right now the functionality isn’t something users can readily access, but it is on the way. A new string found within the Android Developers website code listed as startVoiceActivity describes the capability for an interaction to be started by voice so long as the application supports Andro...

Android Oreo feature spotlight: Redesigned Wi-Fi info screen now shows Sign In button for public networks This article is Android O Feature Spotlights  . Wi-Fi networks that us capative  (like a Sign In page) can be a real headache. You connect to it, and then try to figure out why nothing is loading, and finally Android shows the 'Sign in to network' popup. Starting with Android O, the Settings app makes it more obvious that you are connected to a public Wi-Fi network. Android 7.0 Android 8.0 Android O's battery optimization feature is awesome As mentioned above, the switch only appears on apps not targeting Android O (meaning apps that aren't yet built with Android O support in mind). For applications already targeting Android 8.0, like Twitter in the above screenshot, the battery optimizations are already enabled and cannot be turned off. As you might expect, forcing the new background limits on older apps can break notifications and ...
