Everything about Sony XZ1.

Image
Sony XZ1 The XZ1 Compact arguably has the easier task - it caters to those longing for a premium Android mini, who were disappointed by the X Compact and its lower standing. The full-sized XZ1 on the other hand will try and serve a niche with much fiercer competition. It builds on the XZ Premium Loop surface design and its Motion Eye camera by adding smoother edges and new smoother modes. The 4K screen has gone missing in action, but that had its fair share of doubters at the 5.5" diagonal of the Premium, so it probably won't have seen much love at all here at 5.2". Plus, Sony made it clear the the XZ1 is the direct successor to the Xperia XZ and will bring the Motion Eye goodness even to the markets that didn't get the XZs. Sony Xperia XZ1 key features Body:  148 x 73.4 x 7.4mm, 155 g, Aluminum unibody, Gorilla Glass 5 front, IP65/68 waterproofing Screen:  5.2" Triluminos display, 1080p resolution (1,080 x 1,920px), HDR video support OS:  Android O...

Motorola releases list of devices that will get Android Oreo

Image
Motorola releases list of devices that will get Android Oreo Now that Android 8.0 Oreo is out in the wild for Google’s Pixel and Nexus devices, now the attention turns to Android manufacturers to see what devices will get the update and the speed at which they receive the updates. Motorola is one such manufacturer, and with a slew of Android devices under its belt, it’s time to take a look at which will get Oreo. Taking a look at the list, the more notable omissions are the Moto G4 Plus, all three of which were released in 2016. Even though they were all upgraded to Nougat, it looks as if that will be the last major Android update they will receive, which is a bit of a letdown but something that has become a trend with budget smartphones. Also of note is some of the language Motorola uses with certain devices, whose Oreo updates are “pending partner support.” Keep in mind that, even though Motorola is behind the updates, the carriers are the ones that ...

Quad-camera Huawei G10 (Maimang 6) gets official on September 22

Image
Quad-camera Huawei G10 (Maimang 6) gets official on September 22 How many cameras can you put in one smartphone? Huawei seems to think the current answer to that question is 4. That's how many cameras the upcoming Maimang 6 sports, as  revealed by TENAA  yesterday. The device we mistook for the  Mate 10 is in fact the newest member of the Maimang series for China. These handsets are sold in other countries as the G line, with the  Maimang 5  being rebranded to  Huawei G9 Plus  last year. So it stands to reason that the Maimang 6 would be called Huawei G10 outside of China (and that name neatly aligns, number-wise, with the P10 and Mate 10 to suggest it's from the company's 2017 roster). Huawei has issued an official teaser image which also serves as an event invite for the Maimang 6's introduction on September 22. The 18:9 screen is obviously there, even if we only see its outline. This will probably be the first Huawei handset launchi...

AT&T and Sprint announce iPhone 8 discounts with a lot of strings attached

Image
AT&T and Sprint announce iPhone 8 discounts with a lot of strings attached T AT&T and Sprint are the first two carriers to announce discounts on the iPhone 8. They’re two pretty different deals, and they both have their perks and limitations. First up is AT&T, which has a buy one, get one offer on the 8 and 8 Plus. There are a couple catches here: the first, and biggest, is that you have to be a DirecTV or U-Verse customer to qualify. If you are (or you decide to sign up for TV service), then you’ll be able to get a second iPhone at no additional cost, but only so long as you buy the phones through AT&T’s leasing program and maintain service for both of them, essentially locking you in to the carrier for two years. Limitations aside, it’s a solid deal if you’re a DirecTV or U-Verse customer and happy with AT&T’s coverage in your area. The deal goes live on Friday, and certain other “popular smartphones” will be eligible, too. SPRINT’S DEAL REQUIRES A...

New oneplus 5 next week!!

Image
A special edition OnePlus 5 might be revealed next week OnePlus is holding an event on September 19 in Paris, where the company will reveal something new. Before you get too excited, let me point out that it won’t be a new smartphone, as the OnePlus 5 has been available for just three months. What we’ll likely see is a special edition of the flagship made in partnership with designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. OnePlus has confirmed that it’s teaming up with the famous French designer to  TechAdvisor , which also got its hands on the invite for the event — check it out below. Unfortunately, the invite doesn’t really reveal much, so we’re not completely sure what to expect. Our best guess is that the company will show off the oneplus 5 in a new color option and branded with the designer’s logo on the back. If you recall, OnePlus did the same thing back in March when it joined forces with Colette and announced a limited edition oneplus 3T...

The Sun Just Erupted The Biggest Solar Flare in 12 Years And It Has Affected Earth

The Sun Just Erupted The Biggest Solar Flare in 12 Years And It Has Affected Earth!! X-Class Flares The sun has just erupted in an absolutely massive solar flare, so big that it knocked out radio comms here on Earth. Actually, it spat out two X-class flares, on the morning of 6 September EDT. These are the biggest class of solar flare there is, and the largest explosions in our solar system, with loops of plasma tens of times the size of the Earth. The first one came in at X2.2 at 5.10am EDT. Then, just a few hours later at 8.03am, it dropped an absolutely monster X9.3 flare, the largest since 2005. You can watch the resulting coronal mass ejection in the gif below. Both flares erupted from an active region called AR 2673, which also produced an M-class flare a few days ago. Of the two sunspot regions currently active, both flares came from the smaller – a size of just 7 Earths by 9 Earths. This solar cycle, the sun’s 11-year periodic activity cy...

Scientists Just Discovered Organisms That Are Distinct From Any Life Forms Known to Science

Scientists Just Discovered Organisms That Are Distinct From Any Life Forms Known to Science!!! New Life On the tree of life, humans share a branch with a diverse array of creatures, all with one thing in common: a backbone. This single shared characteristic is enough to group us with dogs, fish, and lizards, in a group called a phylum; this is repeated throughout Earth’s organisms, connecting all of life’s diversity into one tree. But now, researchers from University of Queensland (UQ) in Australia have uncovered an array of thousands of organisms so unique, they don’t fit into any existing phylum. At the core of this research, which has been published in Nature Microbiology, was a relatively new technique known as metagenomics. It involves the sequencing of all the DNA in a sample of an environment — dirt, water, feces, etc. — to produce that sample’s metagenome. A phylogenetic tree of life. Note how small the phylum Animalia — where humans...

Scientists Have Discovered an Alien Planet That has "Titanium Skies"

Image
Scientists Have Discovered an Alien Planet That has "Titanium Skies" Analyzing an Inferno World For the first time, astronomers have detected titanium oxide in the atmosphere of an exoplanet. The observation was made using the FORS2 instrument on the ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT), and it provides unique insight into the chemical composition of the exoplanet WASP-19b, as well as valuable information about the pressure and temperature structure of its atmosphere. WASP-19b is a very warm and truly unusual “Hot Jupiter” about 1,000  light-years  from Earth. It has about the same mass as Jupiter, but because it is so close to its parent star, it completes an orbit in just 19 hours. This also makes it very hot — the temperature of its atmosphere is estimated at about 2,000 degrees Celsius (3,632 degrees Fahrenheit). When WASP-19b passes in front of its star, some starlight passes through its atmosphere, leaving “fingerp...

Pixel 2 XL hits the FCC, LG confirmed as manufacture Another piece of the puzzle has fallen into place. The Pixel 2 XL has just been spotted in the FCC database, in a sign that the official launch of the device is rapidly approaching. The new listing confirms that LG is the maker of the larger Pixel 2 XL, but nothing else of note can be gleamed from the document, except the fact that the device will not work on the 600MHz spectrum  owned by T-Mobile in the US . FCC certification is a necessary step for any device that has to operate on US wireless spectrum. While phone makers are not required to certify devices at a specific time before launch, the publication of FCC listings suggests a commercial release is coming sooner, rather than later. Another leak from today suggests  Google might launch the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL on October 4 , exactly one year after the launch of the original device
